Would you look at that?!? Matthew caught this one all by himself today, with no help from Grandaddy! This boy loves to fish, and unfortunately doesn't get to go nearly as much as he'd like to. But today, he caught the big one! This is his largest so far!I'm almost afraid to say this, for fear of jinxing myself, but we are enjoying a fantastic weekend! We sure needed it after the events of the last couple of weeks. The trip to Orlando, weekend
houseguests, and a funeral just about did us in! We've been trying to recover all week! But yesterday afternoon.....
whoo hoo! Let the fun begin!
Matthew started having problems with his allergies and asthma on Wednesday afternoon...coughing nearly every other breath at times. His inhaler alone just wasn't doing the trick, so Friday I decided we'd better get him to the doctor before the weekend. So, I got an afternoon appointment, and left school early. (I didn't have any students the last two classes of the day anyway because of Prom.) So, we went to the doctor, and he decided that yes, it was just the asthma and allergies, not bronchitis or pneumonia, and ordered a spacer for the inhaler and decided to try him on
Singulair for a while. I'm hoping that being on a maintenance type drug will help; unfortunately he seems to have inherited his daddy's allergy problems, and really suffers sometimes.
When we left the doctor's office, we decided to hang around and meet Tracy after he got off work. We had already talked about maybe as a surprise we would take Matthew to see Monsters vs. Aliens. As we were driving in the shopping center (which also happens to have a movie theater) to meet Tracy, Matthew said, "Mama, when can we go see Monsters vs. Aliens?" So I told him that we had talked about doing it that afternoon. It turns out they had a showing that was just starting when we got there, and would you believe that we were the ONLY ONES IN THE THEATER! How cool is that?!!!!!!? We had popcorn and enjoyed our own private screening! (And by the way, it was a pretty good movie!) We left there, and headed to our favorite Mexican restaurant for an early supper....breezed in and out, and made it home in time to get in bed early!
Today we have worked on getting our garden planted. All hasn't gone as smoothly as we would've liked, but it will all be in the ground before Tracy stops for the day. We're planting squash, okra, pink-eye peas, sweet corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, and cantaloupe. In other words, Matthew, Luke, and I are going to have plenty to do when school is out! I love fresh vegetables, though, so it will be worth the work! I even found some sunflower seeds that I had been looking for--the
giant ones like my Big Mama used to have planted along her fence row. I'm going to plant those in a different spot, where we are going to plant pumpkins in June.
Luke has taken two naps today, and is asleep right now, hence the long blog post! I've also had to time to start reading a new book, re-pot some ferns for my front porch (yes, the ones I had planned to do during spring break), and catch up on some laundry. My wonderful "cleaning fairy" came yesterday, so for now, the house is all clean and orderly, which makes me so much happier and relaxed!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
