Update on Matthew & More Big Plans

If you read my last post, you know that Matthew has had the flu. He was feeling better by Monday, but was still running a low grade fever on Monday and Tuesday, so I kept him home from school. He was so excited to get to go back on Wednesday, and had a good day. This morning, when he got up he complained of his stomach hurting. I believed that it really did hurt, but didn't think it was enough to keep him home today. I had to go to some schools in a neighboring county to test some students, so I dropped him off and then was meeting another teacher so that we could ride together. Well, about the time I was turning in the drive to meet my colleague, my cell phone rang. It was my mom, telling me that the school had just called, and Matthew had made it to the classroom, but threw up when he got there. I felt so bad that he had to go through that! I think it would have to be much worse throwing up at school than it is at home! He's been fine the rest of the day, so we're going to try it again tomorrow. I sure hope he's able to go, or we'll never get all this work made up. They do a lot in first grade!

Since last weekend didn't turn out as we had planned, I'm especially excited about this weekend. I have excellent seats for the sold-out concert by these folks:

The recently revamped Gaither Vocal Band. Some people might call me a nerd, because I know a lot of people my age are all about contemporary Christian music, but I'm a die-hard Southern Gospel music fan. There's nothing wrong with contemporary, and I do like some of it, but for the most part, it just doesn't appeal to me. I was raised on SG and country/bluegrass style gospel music, and it just stuck in my system. As my Aunt Lucy says, there might be somebody out there who loves it as much as I do, but there's nobody who loves it any more than I do. It's just not possible! Even though this won't be the full-scale Homecoming concert, it will still be great! For me, music is a huge part of worship, and if past experience holds true, tomorrow night I'll feel like I've been in church for three hours! And I mean, a GOOD church service! After this week, I sure need it!

Big Plans?

We had great plans for this weekend. I serve on the board of directors for a youth organization, and we were supposed to travel south for a board meeting this weekend. My Uncle Mikey lives in the same town, and we were planning to be in church with him on Sunday. That's always a special time, because it's rare that we get to hear him preach in his home church. (He's my daddy's brother, who married Tracy and me, and also performed both Matthew and Luke's baby dedications.) Well, Tracy & Matthew had an errand to run Friday morning, and Matthew fell asleep on the way home....red flag #1. When they got home, Matthew complained of being cold, and although it had been pretty cool in the garage, he shouldn't have been shivering....red flag #2. Something just told me I'd better check his temperature......YIKES.....102!!!!! We did the normal stuff for fevers, and we could not get it to come below 100. So, first thing Saturday morning we were at the pediatrician's office, and the diagnosis is that Matthew has the flu. He's doing better this morning, and we're praying that the rest of us don't catch us. He and Luke both have had their flu vaccines, but apparently, this is a different strain.

Why do the greatest plans not work out? We had it all together...we'd leave around lunchtime on Friday, have the board meeting Saturday and Sunday a.m., but I'd leave in time to be at church with Uncle Mikey. (His church is fairly close to the meeting location.) So many things that we were looking forward to. I don't know, but I have learned not to question. I have to remember that God sees a whole lot more than my human eyes can see or my brain can understand. I have no idea what kind of danger He may have protected us from this weekend, or what kind of blessing He may have in store for us here at home. It all reminds me of a poem I heard one time. Basically, the point was that if you think of God weaving the pattern of our lives, all we can see is the underside....with all the thread knotted, etc., but HE views our lives from above, and sees the beautiful design He has woven. I'm so thankful that He is in control!

What on earth am I doing?

I honestly can't believe I'm actually doing this. I mean, I'm a huge computer geek, but putting my life out there for the world seems a bit.....unnatural.... for me. As a business teacher, I know and preach to my students all the "dangers" of too much personal information, but yet, here I am, starting a blog, where I will share the details of my life with some who are complete strangers, and other "cyber friends" that I've gotten to know over the last few months.

What draws me to this form of expression? Perhaps it's the blessing I've received from reading other Christian moms' blogs.....knowing that I'm not the only one out there going through ____, or struggling with "x". I've enjoyed getting to know some of you and your families so much! You've inspired me in so many ways. Perhaps something I will say here will somehow be an encouragment to someone else.....or at least provide a good laugh while thinking, "at least I'm not like HER!"
